Website Accessibility Statement
At Advanced Laser Institute, we are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We strive to meet or exceed the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, an internationally recognized set of guidelines for making web content more accessible.
Accessibility on Advanced Laser Institute
To this end, we regularly test our website in accordance with best practices, using automated tools and manual testing. We have taken several measures to ensure that our website is accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. These measures include, but are not limited to:
- Designing our website with accessibility in mind, considering factors such as color contrast, font sizes, and keyboard navigation.
- Providing alternative text descriptions for images, enabling screen readers to interpret visual content.
- Structuring our web pages with proper headings, lists, and other HTML tags for improved navigation.
- Ensuring compatibility with assistive technologies, such as screen readers and speech recognition software.
- Regularly testing our website using automated accessibility tools and conducting manual audits to identify and fix any accessibility issues.
Available Technologies
We listed a number of assistive CX technology applications below which our customers who have trouble typing, gesturing, moving a mouse, or reading can use for additional accessibility, however it is not required to use on our website. The application is free to download and it incorporates tools such as mouse and keyboard replacements, voice recognition, speech enablement, hands-free/touch-free navigation, and more.
- For Windows users: JAWS and Chrome or NVDA and Firefox
- For Mac users: VoiceOver and Safari or VoiceOver and Chrome
For mobile users: VoiceOver for the iPhone and TalkBack for Android devices
JAWS®
JAWS, Job Access With Speech, is the world’s most popular screen reader, developed for computer users whose vision loss prevents them from seeing screen content or navigating with a mouse. JAWS provides speech and Braille output for the most popular computer applications on your PC. You will be able to navigate the Internet, write a document, read an email and create presentations from your office, remote desktop, or from home.
NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA)
NVDA is a full-functioning advanced screen reader with both text-to-speech and braille display capabilities. It’s free and it is one of the best options for Windows users. NVDA is quick and easy to install and includes a built-in speech synthesizer that supports more than 50 languages. This open-source screen reader is compatible with popular browsers, such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. It is also compatible with Microsoft applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Apple VoiceOver
Apple VoiceOver provides auditory descriptions of onscreen elements to help users easily navigate their screens with a Bluetooth keyboard or gestures on a touch screen or trackpad. Users have an option to use Siri to turn VoiceOver on and off, or add the feature to the Control Center for quick access. VoiceOver supports more than 30 languages and is available across all iOS devices.
ChromeVox
ChromeVox is a built-in screen reader for Chromebook users. ChromeVox works well with Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Its customizable settings allow users to magnify selected text and get voice feedback. Additional features include keyboard shortcuts, changing the voice or language, and increasing or decreasing volume. Google also offers a free Chrome browser extension, Screen Reader, that’s available to Windows and Mac iOS users. Google recommends using the extension in conjunction with other screen readers, such as ChromeVox on Chrome OS, VoiceOver on Mac, or NVDA on Windows, to access more features.
Android with TalkBack
TalkBack is the Google screen reader included on Android devices. TalkBack gives you eyes-free control of your device. The setup of your device depends on the device manufacturer, Android version, and TalkBack version. These help pages apply to most devices, but you might experience some differences.
